Mission Statement
To improve the quality of life of Georgia’s children and adults affected by pain through education, advocacy, public policy, and the promotion of excellence in clinical practice.
Education & Awareness
Promote an educational environment that maximizes the optimal practice of pain management
Objectives
I. Identify and publicize educational resources for pain management
A. Maintain GPI website
II. Provide educational resources to public, health care providers, people with pain
A. Develop campaign to address conversations about pain for physicians and patients
B. Continue to develop professional education for pain management to practicing physicians, pharmacists, nurses, students, and other healthcare providers
C. Develop and distribute public education related to pain management to civic groups including schools, senior centers, etc.
III. Establish minimum standards for healthcare provider pre-practice education on pain management

Promote a balanced policy environment (legal, regulatory, legislative).
I. Work with State Boards to adopt and promote guidelines for effective pain management
II. Ensure that state legislation and regulatory changes considered are balanced with regard to
pain management (including but not limited to the creation of a Georgia Prescription Monitoring Program)
III. Work with Medicare and GA Medicaid to promote balanced approach
A. Involve representative from Public Health and Federally Qualified Health Centers on GPI Steering Committee
B. Monitor changes to Medicaid funding based on Affordable Care Act and budget in Georgia
