About Georgia Pain Initiative

The Georgia Pain Initiative is a project of the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, and a member of the Alliance of State Pain Initiatives. The Georgia Pain Initiative was formed in 2008 to address pain management and palliative care practice and policy in our state. The mission of the Georgia Pain Initiative is to improve the quality of life for Georgia’s children and adults affected by pain through education, advocacy, public policy, and the promotion of excellence in clinical practice. The Georgia Pain Initiative now joins other states across the country that maintain active state Pain Initiatives. The Georgia Pain Initiative is guided by a Steering Committee that includes representatives from the American Cancer Society, Composite State Board of Medical Examiners, Georgia Cancer Coalition, Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, and caregivers. The Committee is tasked with guiding and leading the implementation the Initiative’s strategic plan.

The Georgia Pain Initiative Strategic Plan was developed by the Georgia Pain Initiative Steering Committee in May of 2008. This plan outlines the goals, objectives and strategies for the Initiative for 2008-2011.
